The Philippines is located at the heart of the Asia-Pacific region, made up of 7,107 islands. Covering a land area of 116,000 square kilometers, it is composed of three island groups: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The world’s 12th most populous country, it has an estimated population of 89.5 million as of 2006. Around two thirds reside on the island of Luzon, where the city of Manila is located. A predominantly Christian nation, its education system is based on the U.S. curriculum. Literacy rate is at 95.9%, one of the highest in Asia. The Filipinos are best known for their warmth, hospitality and ready smiles. They are also known for their work ethic and the country has supplied the world with expertise in various industries like healthcare, IT-related and hospitality services.

Manila is the capital of the Philippines and is considered one of the more cosmopolitan cities in the world. The city has been playing host to global visitors for centuries now.
